There are cakes you make for fun, and then there are cakes you make when you want to impress. I’ve made plenty of both, but my favorites are the ones that offer an extra challenge. As an avid baker, I’m comfortable making a simple chocolate sheet cake or pound cake — but when the steps in the recipe outnumber the ingredients, I know I’ll have my work cut out for me.
